CP stands for Combat Power. It is the single number that determines how strong yourPokémonn performs in Gym battles, Raid battles, and PvP (Player vs. Player) leagues. The higher the CP, the stronger your Pokémon hits and the longer it survives in battle.
CP is calculated from three underlying stats combined with a level-based multiplier:
Attack: How much damage your Pokémon deals
Defense: How well your Pokémon resists incoming damage
Stamina (HP): How much damage your Pokémon can absorb before fainting
When a Pokémon evolves, its base stats change to the evolved form’s values, and CP can jump dramatically. A Magikarp evolving into Gyarados multiplies its CP by approximately 10 times. A Pidgey evolving into Pidgeot roughly doubles its CP. The exact multiplier differs for every species, which is exactly why this calculator exists,s because guessing is never good enough when Candy is involved.
Candy and Stardust are the two most valuable resources in Pokémon Go, and they take real time and real effort to farm. Using an evolution calculator before you evolve protects that investment in four key ways:
Save Candy and Stardust: Not all evolutions are equally rewarding. SomePokémonn receive only a 50% CP boost on evolving, while others can triple or even quadruple. The calculator shows you the payoff before you commit, so you invest only in evolutions that are worth it.
Build Stronger Battle Teams: When you have multiple copies of the same Pokémon, the calculator lets you compare all of them and identify the one with the highest post-evolution CP, giving your team the strongest possible version.
Avoid PvP League Mistakes: In Great League (1,500 CP cap) and Ultra League (2,500 CP cap), going even one CP over the limit makes yourPokémonn ineligible. The calculator shows your maximum possible post-evolution CP, so you never accidentally disqualify aPokémonn you spent weeks building.
Plan Raid Performance: Before an important Raid day, use the calculator to confirm your evolved Pokémon will be strong enough to contribute meaningfully, not just barely eligible.
This is one of the most searched questions in all of Pokémon Go and the answer is almost always the same: evolve first, then power up.
Here is why: When you power up a Pokémon, you spend Stardust to raise its level, which increases CP based on its current base stats. After evolution, the base stats change to the evolved form’s much higher values. That means every power-up you do after evolving gives you dramatically more CP per Stardust spent.
The one exception: if you are targeting a PvP league CP cap. Use the evolution calculator first to confirm your evolved Pokemon will not exceed 1,500 CP (Great League) or 2,500 CP (Ultra League) before you start powering up.

Answers to the most common questions trainers have about the Pokemon GO Evolution Calculator.
Yes. The tool uses the same CP formula that Pokemon GO uses internally, based on each species’ base Attack, Defense, and Stamina stats multiplied by a level-based CP Multiplier. Results are highly accurate with a min to max range shown to account for hidden IV variation.
No. Individual Values are permanent and carry through evolution unchanged. Only the base stats change to the evolved form’s values. A 100 percent IV Pokemon before evolving remains 100 percent IV after.
No. Shiny Pokemon follow the exact same CP formula as their regular counterparts. The calculator works identically for both because Shiny status only affects appearance, not stats.
No. Weather boosts are a temporary in-game modifier and are not part of the evolution CP formula. The calculator gives you the base post-evolution CP which is what your Pokemon retains permanently.
Shadow Pokemon follow the same evolution mechanics as regular Pokemon. Purified Pokemon that were below Level 25 when caught are boosted to Level 25, so their post-evolution CP will typically be higher than a Shadow counterpart caught at the same base CP.
Each of Eevee’s eight evolutions has completely different base stats. Vaporeon is built for high HP, Jolteon for Attack, and Umbreon for Defense. The calculator shows all eight CP results simultaneously.
The Magikarp to Gyarados evolution costs 400 Candies, one of the highest candy costs in the entire game. The calculator confirms the CP payoff before you spend it.
